The Police Department‘s Mission is to safeguard the lives and property of residents of Thousand Oaks and respond to public concerns in a manner that promotes neighborhoods free from the fear of crime. Since its incorporation in 1964, Thousand Oaks has contracted with the Ventura County Sheriff's Department for law enforcement services. As the City has evolved into a well-planned and highly desirable community to live, work, and recreate in, the Police Department continues to focus on enhancing the strong partnership they enjoy with the people they serve.

With 92 sworn officers and 108 total employees, the Police Department continues to develop proactive law enforcement strategies and prevention programs, intended to keep the community safe and to maintain the quality of life residents expect. In addition to the core patrol, traffic, and investigative services typical among comparable cities, the Police Department provides specialized services in response to community concerns and input. These services have been integral to Thousand Oaks’ continued recognition as one of the safest cities in the United States with a population of more than 100,000.
